Music Motivation: Bridge Over Troubled Water

Originally performed by Simon & Garfunkel, Bridge Over Troubled Water encapsulates the feelings of love and support. Elvis’s incredible raw vocals and cry in his voice made this song into a spiritual experience. It truly was a shining moment in That’s The Way It Is (1970).

Without a doubt, whenever I feel down, I will turn to this song. Though more times than not, it will make me cry harder, it does bring comfort.

Let’s take a closer look at the lyrics by Simon & Garfunkel:

When you’re weary, feeling small. When tears are in your eyes, I will dry them all. I’m on your side, oh, when times get rough. And friends just can’t be found. Like a bridge over troubled water, I will lay me down. Oh, like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down

When you’re down and out, when you’re on the streets. When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you. I’ll take your part when the darkness falls and pain is all around. Yes, like a bridge over troubled water I will lay me down. Oh, like a bridge over trouble water I will lay me down

Sail on, silver girl, sail on by. Your time has come to shine all your dreams on their way. See how they shine oh, if you need a friend. I’m sailing right behind. Yes, like a bridge over troubled water. I, I will ease your mind. Like a bridge over troubled water I will ease your mind

It may not always be clear to you, but there are people that care about you. There’s something special about Elvis fans. It’s almost like you can look at a person and just know they are an Elvis fans. It’s a common bond between strangers that can turn into life-long friendships.
