Released March 6th, 1964, Kissin’ Cousins was Elvis’s 14th film. Directed by Gene Nelson, Elvis stars as Josh Morgan and Jodie Tatum. For those who have not seen this movie, I know what you must be thinking: Elvis had two roles? Oh yes. He had his original dirty blonde hair he was born with and his very recognizable jet black hair. The fact that we see double the Elvis almost makes up for the rest of the film… almost.

Kissin’ Cousins follows an Army officer who returns to the Great Smoky Mountains. His assignment is to convince his distant cousins to allow the Army to build a missile site on their land. The mission becomes complicated when he meets his doppelganger cousin and his two beautiful DISTANT cousins. He does end up with one of his, again I say, DISTANT cousins and manages to set up the other cousin with one of his Army buddies so everyone wins.

Catchin’ On Fast

Josh convinces Pappy Tatum to sell one side of the mountain to the government as long as government employees do not come over to their side. There is a happy ending and everyone is very happy.

Even as a child I did not care for this movie. I always enjoyed there being more Elvis and that was always the benefit to me. The main title song is very catchy and that just so happened to get stuck in my head very often. (Including now,). This is not my favorite Elvis film, but it is also not the worst. I find myself wanting to watch this movie for aspects. It just always disturbed me he ended up with his cousin, even if they were distance relatives.
