“I’ve been running all the way, baby trying to get to you”
With this being Elvis Week and me unable to attend the festivities this year, I wanted to do something special for myself. Elvis has been a part
I am opening with this for Elvis songs for a Week (since it is Elvis week), with Trying to Get to You. When I was 5, I had a cassette tape (yes a cassette tape.) and this was the first song on it. I cannot remember any Elvis This song I had heard before. This song sticks with me as the first Elvis song I have ever heard, making Trying to Get to You one of my favorite Elvis songs. The song was released August of 1956. This was on Elvis’s first album, cleverly titled, Elvis Presley. Here is the original recording from 1956 that made me an even bigger Elvis fan.
Trying to Get to You – 1956
The raw talent demonstrated in this song still gives me chills. Elvis performed this song while wearing the black leather suit during his CBS special. This would be known as the ’68 Comeback Special. (That is an entirely different story for later). His live performance during this song just reminds me as to why I am an Elvis fan; because he is talented and completely gorgeous.
Trying to Get to You- 1968
Just perfection, Elvis was just perfection. I am very excited to continue this week of Elvis songs and reflect on why I love him.
